Volunteer Opportunities

For information on Volunteer Opportunities both before and during Camp
contact Day Camp Director
All volunteers (who volunteer for more than 1 day) at Day Camp will be provided with training for this year's Camp. Even if you have been trained in years past, this year's training is mandatory, due to the number of activities and changes within Camp this year. All boys deserve Trained Leaders.

Mandatory Volunteer Requirements

Packs sending boys to Day Camp MUST satisfy the following three quotas:
1) 5-Day Den Leaders and Staff Positions:
One 5-Day Adult Volunteer for every 8th boy registered from your Pack, to serve as Den Leader or as Camp Staff. These volunteers must be 5 Day volunteers and meet the specified BSA registration and training requirements. See Training Requirements table that follows.
2) Camp Volunteers for Stations or Dens:
One Adult Volunteer for each of the five (5) days of Day Camp for every 4th boy registered from your Pack. Multiple adults may pool their available days to cover this requirement, but each of the 5 days of Camp must be covered. Note: Each 5-Day Den Leader or Camp Staffer provided by the Pack may be used to satisfy the requirement for one Camp or Den Volunteer.
Example: Your Pack sends 1 Bear and 2 Webelos, NO mandatory volunteer needed.
Example: Your Pack sends 2 Bears and 2 Wolves, ONE mandatory volunteer required. Two of your parents could volunteer, one for 2 days and one for 3 days. This satisfies your requirement for ONE mandatory volunteer for each of the 5 days.
3) Den Volunteers:
One Adult Volunteer for every 4th Scout of the same Rank, to help lead the Den of that same Rank. Multiple adults may pool their available days to cover this requirement, but each of the 5 days of Camp must be covered. Note: Each 5-Day Den Leader or Camp Staffer provided by the Pack may be used to satisfy the requirement for one Camp or Den Volunteer.
Example: Your Pack sends 3 Webelos, no mandatory Den volunteer needed.
Example: Your Pack sends 4 5, 6, or 7 Webelos, ONE mandatory volunteer needed
Example: Your Pack sends 8, 9, 10, or 11 Webelos, TWO mandatory volunteers needed.

Volunteer Placement

The Camp Staff will make every effort to place volunteers at their preferred position, but critical shortages may require placement elsewhere.

Uniforms

To keep our Scouts and Volunteers safe at Camp, everyone in Camp must wear either this year's Day Camp T-shirt, or their Class 'A' Cub Or Boy Scout uniform, or be identifiable as a visitor who has checked in at the Administration Desk.
Only the current year's Day Camp T-shirt is allowable as a camp T-shirt. Previous years' T-shirts are not allowable as uniform in Day Camp.
Wearing the T-shirt makes it easier for Staff to spot strangers who might have entered our Camp, and makes it easier for Scouts and adults to identify Staff.
This rule also applies to Junior Campers, who, for insurance reasons are not allowed onto the Day Camp grounds during Camp.
The distinctive color of the Jr. Camper's shirt also makes it easier for the Jr. Camper Staff to supervise and protect their kids.
Due to T-shirt sizing issues in years past, it is advisable to order a slightly larger size than is currently worn. If you order the wrong size in error, a VERY LIMITED supply of T-shirts MIGHT be available for purchase during Camp.

Parental Concerns

If you would like to visit your son during day camp, you must report to administration upon your arrival at camp. You will be treated as a visitor for the time you are on Day Camp grounds.

To designate adults who are able to pick up your child after Camp, you must include them on your registration form as "People Authorized To Pick Up".

If your son gets hurt during Day Camp, the nature of his injury will be determined and acted upon by the Camp nurse. If the injury is of a minor nature, your son will be treated at the nurse's station and will be released back into Camp after his condition is treated. In this case, a note will be sent home with your son indicating what treatment was given to him. In the event of an injury that is deemed to require more attention than Day Camp is able to reasonably render, he will be transported to a facility that will treat him. In this case, every effort will be made to contact the parents / guardians of the boy prior to transport.

If you need to get in touch with Day Camp, there are several options:
- Contact the Day Camp Administration Desk at TBA. This is the preferred method, especially if you have a sick child that will be missing camp.
- Contact the Baltimore Area Council at 443-573-2500.
- Contact the Howard County Fairgrounds at 410-442-1022.

Boy Scouts

In camp duties for boy scouts will be covered during on-site boy scout training, on Camp Set Up day, June 26, 2010.
